New Toyota Yaris breaks cover in Japan

Toyota has revealed the next-generation of its Yaris supermini in Japan.

The new car, which is due in the UK next summer, has been given a sportier look thanks to aggressive restyling that adds a far more defined face and angular profile.
The design improvements are said to continue inside where Toyota is promising improved noise insulation to go with a range of upgraded interior trim materials.

The latest model will be bigger, too - its wheelbase has grown by 50mm, which should mean there's more legroom for passengers in the rear.

Beneath the bonnet there will be a choice between two small capacity petrol engines - a 68bhp 1.0-litre and the 93bhp 1.33-litre which should be capable of 75mpg thanks to the introduction of start/stop. A five-speed manual gearbox will be standard in Europe.

The Japanese market will see the introduction of a 107bhp 1.5-litre RS model with bigger wheels and modified styling, but don't expect to see that version make it to the UK.
