Honda CR-Z beats VW Polo to win Japanese Car of the Year

The Honda CR-Z has pipped the Volkswagen Polo at the post to claim the title of Japanese Car of the Year after an incredibly closely fought competition.

Honda's hybrid coupe won by just nine votes after a late surge in the poll favoured the domestic model. Until that point the VW Polo seemed like it was destined to become the first imported car ever to win the Japanese COTY title.

The 60 jurors that make up the voting panel are renowned for supporting local models, but the list of ten finalists was dominated by Europeans. Click below to see the final order in which they finished.
