Video: Hennessey Venom GT purrs like brick-filled cement mixer

Updated

It's a funny old hypercar the Hennessey Venom GT. Staring blankly at the pictures it's rather easy to dismiss the whole venture as a slightly tasteless perversion of the pin-sharp Lotus Exige with its lengthened chassis and Yankee V8.

But watching the car turn over is like seeing Kelly Brook undress – suddenly you're completely sold on the whole acting thing. Even at idle the forced induction 6.2-litre eight-cylinder engine sounds like impending doom; cranked up its sonic presence is enough to make you run out and buy a lottery ticket.

A EuroMillion's win would certainly be required to put a Venom GT on your drive – Hennessey only intends to make 10 a year (construction is apparently split between Silverstone and Texas) and they're all going to get a monster price tag. Still, if it's really a 21st century Shelby Cobra – American muscle, British legs – legendary status is assured.
