Korea thriller hands win and championship lead to Alonso

Updated

The fight for the 2010 drivers' championship was blown wide open yet again today after victory for Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and a double Red Bull retirement turned the championship table on its head with just two races remaining. Polesitter Vettel drove impeccably and led every lap of the race until retiring with engine failure, while former championship leader Mark Webber crashed out early in the race.

Rain ahead of the race start forced a red flag after three laps and a one-hour delay to wait for conditions to improve, but the Grand Prix eventually ran its full distance, punctuated by a couple of safety car periods. Both the initial start and the re-start after the red flag period were carried out behind the safety car, allowing Vettel to easily keep his lead, and when the safety car eventually pitted at the end of lap 17 the German immediately built a comfortable cushion.
