Ford Mondeo named as best used car bargain

The less-than great resale values for the Ford Mondeo are a blessing in some form – they have helped it to earn the title of Used Car of the Year from What Car? magazine.

The Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Zetec 5dr family car is worth an average of £8,600 after three years according to the judges, a saving of around £10,000 on its original price.Ford also picked up the title of best Green used car, with the Focus 1.6 TDCi 90 Style emerging victorious, but the Focus was unable to take the honours in its more general, small family car category.

It was the Kia Ceed that took the top spot there, knocking the Focus off the top spot it had enjoyed for the last few years. What Car? editor in chief Steve Fowler said: "Whether you are buying privately or at a dealer you'll have the remainder of Kia's great seven year warranty for peace of mind."

Vauxhall won three of the categories, with the Corsa, Vectra estate and the Zafira winning in their categories, while a five-year-old Porsche Boxster 2.7 was named as the best Sports car.

The judges considered running costs, reliability, drivability, quality, longevity, safety features and desirability when making their choices.
