Double victory at Brands Hatch seals BTCC title for Plato

Updated

Jason Plato clinched the British Touring Car Championship at the final round on Sunday, ending a nine-year wait for his second title.

The Chevrolet Cruze driver was one of four drivers in contention for the most prestigious crown in British racing and held his nerve to take the championship ahead of Honda's Matt Neal in front of 42,000 at a sun-drenched Brands Hatch.

Winning pole position on Saturday gave Plato an immediate advantage - and an extra point - over Neal and Honda team-mate Gordon Shedden and Ford's Tom Onslow-Cole and he made full use of it by winning the first two races.
