Paris motor show: Range Rover Evoque

Ranger Rover's eagerly anticipated new model, the Evoque, has been made public for the first time at the Paris motor show.

Controversially, the entry-level Rangie is the first production Land Rover to come with front-wheel drive, although in two-wheel drive diesel guise it is the cleanest Range Rover yet sold.

The 2.2-litre turbodiesel with stop-start technology sends its 148bhp through the front wheels and has a fuel consumption of 58mpg and a sub-130g/km CO2 output. Four-wheel drive on this model will cost you 8mpg and about 15g/km CO2.

The range-topping 237bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine will achieve a 0-60mph time of 7.1 seconds.

Range Rover has launched the Evoque in standard trim today, but it is expected that the recently-announced collaboration with Victoria Beckham will lead to some kind of special edition in the near future. Her role is as yet undefined by the company.

The car only comes with three doors at the moment, but Land Rover did release a sneak glimpse of the five-door model that will be launched in a few months' time.

The three-door Evoque's price range begins at £30,000 and it will go on sale in the UK next May.
