Paris motor show: Chevrolet Cruze

The Chevrolet Cruze 5-door hatchback has been uncovered at the Paris motor show, with the manufacturer hoping the new body shape will ensure the model's success in Europe.

The saloon version is Chevrolet's highest-selling car worldwide – the company has sold 90,000 of them in China alone since the beginning of the year - the hatchback is intended to appeal to a wider circle of buyers.

Whilst we have criticised the saloon in the past for its lack of hatchback practicality, the high points here are 400-litres of boot space and the brand's value for money.

It's unlikely the new Cruze will rival the Ford Focus in dynamics or the VW Golf in refinement, but you get a lot of car for your cash.

UK prices will be announced nearer to the launch date, but we expect they will begin around the £10,000 mark like the saloon sibling. The Cruze hatch goes on sale next summer.
