Why Vettel was faster than Alonso

Updated

Autoblog UK: Sebastian, according to Joschi Walch's calculations, you can claim the moral victory in Singapore because you were the fastest on the day when the initial eight-metre grid deficit is subtracted from the final result.

Sebastian Vettel: That may be correct, but it's just playing with figures. I started eight metres behind Fernando Alonso and he completed the race 90cm ahead of me. If you then take away those eight metres, it leaves me as nominal winner by 7.1 metres. But unfortunately, we all start at the same moment in time. He was faster in qualifying, which was the reason why he was on pole. So we have to settle for second place today, but we can live with that. We got the best we could out of the situation. We never had any real chance of getting past Fernando in the race. He didn't make a single error. If we'd had an open track, we could have driven faster. But as it was, I was stuck behind him.
