Red Bull crush opposition with 1-second practice domination

Updated

McLaren and Ferrari's chances of victory in Singapore took a huge step backwards in second practice tonight after archrivals Red Bull Racing dominated the ninety-minute session by over a full second, as the Milton Keynes team looked set to return to the dominance they showed in Hungary during the summer. Championship challenger Sebastian Vettel posted a laptime of 1m46.660s to go over a second quicker than his nearest challenger at the time, but team-mate Webber later posted a time of 1m47.287s to go second, albeit still six tenths down.

After this evening's damp first session, the track was almost entirely dry by the time the second session began at 21.30, although some parts remained wet off-line. The drivers were well-behaved once again, with all keeping their cars out of the unforgiving walls, but a couple of incidents caused Adrian Sutil and Fernando Alonso to stop on-track.

With just 11 laps under his belt, Sutil was sent airborne at the turn 10 double chicane, with his coming back to earth causing his left-front suspension to fail, forcing him to stop his damaged car later in the lap.
