Nearly a fifth of drivers that crash into a parked car leave the scene without leaving their details or making any attempt to contact the owner of the damaged vehicle.

This results in an annual bill of around £169m for the innocent owners of the parked cars. Research by accident management company Accident Exchange shows that there are an estimated 700,000 incidents involving parked cars every year, with around 130,000 where the perpetrator flees the scene without owning up.
