Audi changes its mind on S-badged hot hatch

Updated

Audi has retreated from plans to name its hot-hatch variant of its A1 supermini the S1, as revealed on Autoblog last week.

Instead the range-topping car will be called simply the 1.4 TFSI, with the twincharger 1.4-litre engine producing 182bhp.

It is understood that the decision not to use the S1 name was made because the car will only be available with front-wheel drive and not the all-wheel Quattro system which features on every other S model.
