Raikkonen return rumours reignite with Renault

Updated

2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen could be back on the Formula One grid in 2011, after it was revealed during the weekend that he has been in contact with Renault about a seat for next season. The news was confirmed by Eric Boullier in Italy, as the team ponders whether or not to replace rookie Vitaly Petrov.

Raikkonen originally had a contract to race for Ferrari this year, but was bought out of the deal by the Scuderia as they ushered Alonso into the seat, and he instead joined Citroen's junior team in the World Rally Championship. He has since left his options open by not confirming his plans for next year, and with Renault looking competitive again, he is keen to get back into the F1 paddock.
