McLaren: the right strategy

Jenson Button led the race at Monza from the first turn but his team knew that the Ferrari behind him driven by Fernando Alonso was quicker and would pass him on the pit stop, provided the scuderia didn't make any mistakes.

"They deserved their win," said team principal Martin Whitmarsh without beating about the bush. "Jenson made a brilliant start, coped well with the pressure and it was very tight." However, the pit stop decided the race in Alonso's favour.
