McLaren hot favourites for Italian GP win

Updated

Championship challengers McLaren head to this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at the legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza as the red-hot favourites for victory, as Lewis Hamilton looks to build on his impressive win at Spa a fortnight ago. With future tracks likely to suit rivals Red Bull better, the pressure is on McLaren to deliver and history suggests the MP4-25 will be uncatchable on the long Monza straights.

With a powerful Mercedes engine and an efficient F-duct system, McLaren's single-seater is expected to be too hot to handle for Red Bull, who have marked Monza out as their worst track on this year's calendar. A poor performance in last year's race here all but ended Red Bull's title challenge, and although the consequences of a bad race won't be so profound this time around, they will be hoping to limit the damage and put themselves in pole position for the remainder of the season.
