Alonso not giving up on title despite Spa crash

Updated

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso refused to be downbeat on his title hopes after crashing out of today's Belgian Grand Prix in wet conditions, putting him 41 points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton with six rounds of the season remaining. Alonso remains confident that he can regain the ground lost today in future races, insisting his title chances are still 50/50.

"The first of the seven "finals" went badly for me and for two of the other five finalists," Alonso said after the race, "while the remaining two got the maximum results: that means we will have to make up the ground lost today somewhere else."
