Lamborghini ponders four-door Rapide beater

Lamborghini would consider building a four-door model to compete with the Maserati Quattroporte and the Aston Martin Rapide, according to the brand's boss.

Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini's CEO, admitted in an interview that a third model would be a good 'fit' for the Volkswagen Group's supercar division.

"A four-door car would be a very feasible approach," he told Bloomberg.
Leaving aside the monstrous LM002 SUV, Lamborghini hasn't built a true four seat model since it launched the Espada grand tourer in the 1968. The manufacturer displayed a four-door concept at the Paris show in 2008 dubbed the Estoque, but the striking car never made it to production.

While Winkelmann indicated that there was currently no plan in place to introduce another model alongside the Gallardo and Murcielago, a new Lamborghini saloon would be well positioned to take advantage of an expected rise in sales of 'super-luxury' cars as the global market moves out of recession.
