Schumacher denies speeding on German autobahn

Michael Schumacher may have agreed to pay a 1,000 euro FIA fine for breaking the pitlane speed limit at Hockenheim on Friday, but the seven times F1 world champion is refusing to accept a far more modest financial penalty for allegedly speeding on the public road.

According to the Bild am Sonntag newspaper, the veteran racing driver has been accused of exceeding the German autobahn limit by 20kph in a rented Wiesmann sports car.

However, the 41-year-old denies that it is him pictured in the speed camera photograph, and has declined to pay the 140 euro fine. The case will now be heard in district court.
