Video: Car flips into crowd at World Touring Car meeting
Brands Hatch played host to the World Touring Car Championship this weekend, but the most dramatic action took place in the Seat Leon Eurocup race that followed directly after the second WTCC event.
A seemingly innocuous bump on track sent Portugese driver Francisco Carvalho careering into the safety barrier, where he was launched into a series of cartwheels into the crowd.Thankfully the spectators and stewards watching at Stirlings Bend were all able to get out of the way as the car flipped end over end and nobody was hurt. The Seat's safety cage did its job and Carvalho also emerged unscathed, although a little shaken.
Autoblog UK was at the circuit where the World Touring Cars were less dramatic in their racing, but still provided some good jousts. Success for British drivers meant the home crowd went away happy. Rob Huff finished second behind his Chevrolet team mate Yvan Muller in the first race with reigning British Touring Car champion Colin Turkington coming in third. In race two Andy Priaulx's BMW came home first, with Turkington in second and another former BTCC champ - Gabriele Tarquini - coming third.
