A special edition version of the Bugatti Veyron has broken the world land speed record for a production car.

The Super Sport has been created to offer customers an even more extreme driving experience than the standard car. It uses larger turbochargers and bigger intercoolers to boost the power of the 8.0-litre 16-cylinder engine to 1,184bhp and 1106lb ft of torque.

Thanks to its extra power the new Veyron managed an average top speed of 268mph at the Volkswagen Group's proving ground at Ehra-Lessien, beating Shelby's Ultimate Aero by 12mph.
