Porsche rapped for zero-emissions advert claim
Porsche has been reprimanded by the Advertising Standards Authority for claiming that the Cayenne Hybrid can travel at speeds up to 37mph without using any petrol.
The ASA ruled that the brand was not allowed to make the claim, as it implied that drivers could drive without using any fuel, and therefore without creating any emissions so long as they stayed below 37mph.
The ad stated: "More performance, less fuel... The new Cayenne S Hybrid can even travel to a speed of 37mph without using its V6 petrol engine."
The ASA said of the advert: "Although we understood that Porsche were unable to provide a definitive distance of travel using the electric motor only, we nonetheless considered that the ad should have made clear the car could only travel for a limited distance at up to 37 mph before it would need to engage the petrol engine.
"In the absence of that clarification, we concluded that the ad was likely to mislead."
The ad has now been prevented from reappearing.
