Flying car set to go into production

Updated

American company Terrafugia is to put its flying car prototype into production – potentially fulfilling the dreams small boys and science fiction writers the world over.

The vehicle, dubbed the Transition, has received clearance from the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to be classified as a light sport aircraft – the smallest type of plane – despite being too heavy for the category.

The Transition had failed to make the weight thanks to the addition of elements necessary for a road vehicle, such as airbags, a crumple zone and a roll cage.
