Vettel clear victory, Webber in horrific smash

Updated

Sebastian Vettel has had to wait five races for his second win of the season but he finally did it in Valencia. From pole position, the Red Bull driver secured a win that was only really challenged on the first lap. Team-mate Mark Webber however, was really lucky to emerge unscathed from a horrific somersault.

Webber had a catastrophic first lap, dropping down from P2 to P9. After pitting, he was behind the Lotus driven by Heikki Kovalainen. He tried to overtake but hit Kovalainen's rear wheel and rolled. Whilst barrelling through the air, Webber hit an advertising banner and after the impact flew unchecked into the tyre wall. He freed himself unaided from the wreckage and climbed out of the car. No signs of injury were found at the medical centre.
