A new study carried out by flight comparison website Skyscanner has revealed that France, although considered to be a cheap destination, is in fact the most expensive country to visit on holiday.

The study compared prices of items such as coffee, a beer, a meal, accommodation and car hire in 30 different destinations around the world. Although they excluded the price of flights.

France was the most expensive location - ahead of Switzerland, Denmark, Brazil and Russia. When the price of flights was included, France was still the the third most expensive destination. It was even more expensive than a holiday in Australia or New Zealand.

Skyscanner also conducted a poll of 1,500 people to discover which countries were thought to be most expensive.

Sweden came out on top, followed by Norway and Switzerland. France was perceived to be the ninth most expensive holiday destination.

The most expensive holiday choice including flights is unsurprisingly Japan. But at the opposite end of the scale is Cyprus, which is perceived to be the 14th msot expensive out of the 30 countries. So if you haven't booked your summer holiday yet, you should consider Cyprus if you want to save your pennies.
