Peugeots dominate first qualifying session in Le Mans

Updated

In the first qualifying for the Le Mans 24-hours race, Peugeot emphatically demonstrated their grip on the event. In what counts as the French constructor's home race in the city on the River Sarthe, Peugeot not only claimed provisional pole position but also booked the first four slots on the grid.

Particularly in view of the gloomy weather forecast for the next four days, the excellent start to the weekend for Peugeot could prove decisive. Shortly before midnight, Sébastien Bourdais in his Peugeot 908 (Number 3) posted a lap time of 03:19.711 minutes – so good that not even his team-mates could get close.

Last year's winning trio led by Alexander Wurz, who are likewise driving a Peugeot (though this one obviously has Number 1 on its side), had to settle for second place, 0.606 seconds behind the leaders. On the 13km circuit, the car sporting the Number 2 with Stephane Sarrazin at the wheel took third place.
