Panoz Abruzzi sports car makes Le Mans debut
A limited edition Panoz Abruzzi sports car has made its debut at Le Mans before the legendary 24 hour race this weekend.
Just 81 examples of the Panoz Abruzzi Spirit of Le Mans will be made, one for every year that the day-long race has been running.
Each will be hand built, front-engined and offer around 600bhp and 590 lb ft of pulling power. No other details regarding the car's performance are available at the moment though.
Company boss Don Panoz says the car will be built from a dent-resistant, shatter-proof and recyclable material that is lighter than carbon fibre and has never before been used on a road going car.
'These are advancements that will open up a new era of automotive design,' Panoz said.
He also spoke of the reasons for unveiling the car at Le Mans, saying: 'Being able to stand side-by-side with the heroes and legends of Le Mans gives me a sense of appreciation and passion for this grand event. I felt it was important to give our customers the same experience.'
