Authorities reject 90 percent of claims for pothole compensation

Just one in ten drivers are being compensated for the damage done to their cars by potholes, according to new figures released by the Highways Agency.

Despite the appearance of thousands of potholes after a bitter winter, the authorities are rejecting up to 90 per cent of claims for compensation.

Motorists are within their rights to petition for reimbursement for any damage done to their car by poor road conditions, but the Highways Agency can reject the claim if the driver cannot prove that potholes were the cause or if their records show that that particular stretch of tarmac is being correctly maintained.
