Celebrities are always dropping weight in the blink of eye. Rapper 50 Cent recently shed a whopping four stone in just nine weeks for a film role and actress Hannah Waterman was in the press not too long ago for losing three stone. But these celebrities may not realise the damage they're doing to their bodies.

Most people are keen to lose a few pounds especially with swimsuit season approaching. But losing weight too quickly can be very harmful to you. If you lose a great deal of weight in a matter of days, you will find it is mostly water that you have lost and not fat. This will leave your body dehydrated, and once you start eating normally again, the weight will rapidly pile back on.
Do not be tempted to use detox diets: these may cause you to become extremely dehydrated and can also cause constipation. Also, such rapid weight loss will leave you fatigued and possibly malnourished.
If your body does not take in an adequate amount of calories, it will start to use your muscles for energy causing your body to waste away.
Starving yourself is not an effective way to slim down since the body is naturally programmed not to lose weight. When people do not eat enough food, their bodies go into starvation mode in order to conserve energy. The metabolism slows down and weight loss is prevented.
Eating a restrictive diet like 50 Cent, who had a liquid-only diet, will also reflect badly on your appearance as you will lack the vitamins and nutrients that keep your skin, hair and nails healthy.
So while celebrities may lose weight rapidly for whatever reason don't follow their example, even if their progress is monitored by experts, it is not a safe way to lose weight.
