If you're faced with all the manufacturers offering their latest models up for test at once, the temptation is to run straight for the big and expensive offerings from the likes of Porsche and Bentley.

But after the getting home and reflecting on the day, two of the cars that stuck in our mind from yesterday's SMMT test day were from slightly more humble backgrounds.
