Video: Former NASCAR driver flees from police at 140mph

Updated

The California Highway patrol were left floundering in the wake of a former NASCAR driver's Chevrolet Corvette after they tried to pull him over for a missing license plate.

James Neal hit speeds of up to 140mph as he led police on a 50-mile pursuit. The combination of racing driver skills and Chevy muscle initially proved too much for the hapless highway patrol, but the 2003 Corvette turned out to be the weak link in Neal's plan - the engine blew before he could make good his escape.

It's unclear why Neal attempted to flee from the Orange County cops, but he now faces a month in jail for his little escapade.
