Video: Big screen debut for Audi R8 Spyder

For a great many people the Audi R8 emerged from Ingolstadt a pre-packaged classic; angular, aggressive, superbly balanced and massively quick – it was arguably the car of the decade from a manufacturer operating at the peak of its powers.

The supercar was so of-its-time perfect that Audi revealed it to a wider audience by finding it a place in Robert Downey Jr's hi-tech garage in superhero flick, Iron Man.

The film was a smash hit, and the R8's muscular aesthetic suited it perfectly. It's no surprise then that Audi are keen to repeat the trick with the new R8 Spyder, and by the looks of this trailer, the topless version will play a lead role in the eagerly anticipated sequel.
