Fifth Gear to make welcome return in April
Five has confirmed that its flagship motoring programme Fifth Gear will return to out TV screens in the spring.
A trimmed line-up of presenters will front the show, which has been commissioned for two series in 2010. The first series will start in April, ahead of the next series of Top Gear on the BBC.
Presenters Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson, Jason Plato and Jonny Smith will all return for the new series, while Tom Ford and Tim Shaw have left the team. The show itself has seen a cut too – it will now just be 30 minutes long, coming down from the hour-long shows of the last series.Fifth Gear's return will be welcomed by car fans as a decent antidote to the gags and japes of the Top Gear team that is beginning to overtake the amount of time the cars themselves spent on screen.
Those of us that enjoy watching new cars being put through their paces on a prime-time TV show without them being driven off a pier will certainly be pleased with the news.
