Chrysler announces plans to make electric Fiat 500

Updated

Chrysler has announced it plans to make the electric version of the Fiat 500 in America that it revealed at the North American Auto Show earlier this year.

It is one of the first examples of the two brands working together after Fiat effectively took control of the American manufacturer last year. The new 500EV will go on sale in 2012 and will use an electric powertrain, lithium-ion battery and an EV control unit to manage the flow of power.

There are no details yet on what sort of range the 500EV will be capable of or what performance figures can be expected.
