M6 camera catches 5500 speeding drivers in five weeks

Updated

A speed camera set up in the M6 roadworks has caught over 5500 speeding drivers in just five weeks, bringing in around £160,000 worth of fines.

It is situated between junctions 43 and 44 of the M6 near Carlisle and was installed to protect workers. It still has two weeks left to run before the road works are completed.

Like most roadworks, the 50mph speed limit is clearly signed and only those travelling above 60mph in the 50mph zone are likely to be caught and fined, although this still accounts for almost 3,000 motorists.
