Sir Ranulph Fiennes in head-on smash

Updated

Police are investigating after Sir Ranulph Fiennes was involved in a head-on car crash in Greater Manchester on Saturday.

The 66-year-old explorer apparently swerved into the opposite lane on the A6 in Stockport and crashed into two cars on the other side of the road. Sir Ranulph's Jaguar had collided with a Nissan Micra and a Ford Focus travelling on the opposite side of the road.

Sir Ranulph is being investigated over claims that he 'dozed off' at the wheel. He was taken to hospital after the crash, which happened about 2pm on Saturday afternoon. The hospital visit was purely for a check up as he was reportedly uninjured, although was shaken up by the affair.
