On video: Porsche 918 Spyder concept

Updated

The Porsche 918 Spyder concept was undoubtedly one of the stars of the Geneva show. Thanks to its 500bhp 3.4-litre V8 engine, the 918 is capable of lapping the Nordschliefe quicker than a Carrera GT, but it will also return 94mpg and emit just 70g/km CO2 thanks to its plug-in hybrid technology.

The Spyder concept gets three electric motors which deliver 218bhp and can travel up to 25 kilometres on battery power alone. Anyone interested in purchasing a future production version of the car can register their interest at a Porsche dealership.

If sufficient potential customers are found, Porsche will give the green light to enter it into production. We spent a good deal of time at Geneva drooling over the mid-engined two seater, but if you need some more persuading we've posted the launch video so you can check it out for yourself.
