Toyota to recall eight models in Europe

Updated

Toyota has confirmed it is recalling a total of eight European models to assess the sticking-accelerator-pedal issue that is affecting its cars.

The eight models and the affected production dates are: the Aygo (Feb 2005 – Aug 2009), the iQ (Nov 2008 – Nov 2009), the Yaris (Nov 2005 – Sep 2009), the Auris (Oct 2006 – 5 Jan 2010), the Corolla (Oct 2006 – Dec 2009), the Verso (Feb 2009 – 5 Jan 2010), the Avensis (Nov 2008 – Dec 2009) and the RAV4 (Nov 2005 – Nov 2009).

The UK versions of all eight models will be subjected to the recall, and Toyota has said a total of 1.8m cars in Europe are affected. It is keen to stress that only about 30 instances of the accelerator-pedal problem have been reported in Europe, and there have been no accidents as yet.
