MG back in the UK by end of the year

Updated

Shanghai Automotive has announced plans to bring MG cars back to the UK as early as the end of this year.

The car maker aims to revive the vintage British brand by launching a series of UK-built MG models in Europe, including the new MG6 saloon.

Assembly of the new cars will begin at Longbridge, near Birmingham, later this year. One option for assembly of the new MG's is for kits of the models shipped over and then have them put together at the UK plant.

Speaking to Reuters, Hu Maoyuan said, "We want to get our UK plant up and running. MG models will not only be sold in Britain but also in other European countries through its existing dealership networks."
