Mitsubishi unveils ASX crossover before Geneva debut

Updated

The crossover segment is getting steadily more crowded with the arrival of another rival to the Nissan Qashqai and the Peugeot 3008 – Mitsubishi's ASX.

The ASX is styled to look like a baby off-roader, like the rest of the crossover class, and will offer the option of four-wheel and front-wheel drive, although Mitsubishi expects to sell more of the latter.

Mitsubishi has said the focus will be on environmentally friendly engines, with a 1.8-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre petrol leading the way, both with stop start technology. There are no plans for a hybrid at the moment.

There are no indications of prices yet, but expect it to be in line with the Qashqai and the 3008, so from about £17,000 to £22,000.

Production is set to start in April, so first cars will start appearing on forecourts in June.
