Cruze gets its own race championship

Updated

If there is one way to guarantee your car finishes on the podium it is to eliminate the competition, so it is certain that the Chevrolet Cruze will be racking up a few victories in 2010 with the announcement of a one-make series.

To be fair to Chevrolet, the Cruze has proved rather handy on the track, having completed a season in the World Touring Cars, with Rob Huff winning in Marrakech in May 2009. And it is Huff who is behind the creation of this championship, which will start at Rockingham on April 10. It will consist of seven meetings in all, where teams will compete in three 20 minute races a time. As they are part of the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup, the meetings will be televised.

The cars are based on a standard 1.8-litre petrol-engined Cruze with upgraded KW suspension and bespoke Rimstock alloy wheels. Teams will be able to buy the cars for approximately £20,000, and one team – Alan Blencowe Racing – has already signed up for the series.
