Live from Detroit - Ford Focus: Full Details

Updated

Ford has officially unveiled the new Focus at the Detroit motor show, where it received a rapturous reception from the crowd assembled in the Cobo Arena.

The new version of the best-selling family hatchback is based on an entirely new platform, which will spearhead the Blue Oval's effort to globalise its most successful products. And we can expect the new Focus in UK showrooms during the first quarter of 2011.

'It's the 'One Ford' plan that will see our models align across all markets,' said CEO Alan Mulally 'We can do this because consumer tastes are converging worldwide.'

Ford has chosen to evolve the Focus design rather than overhaul it, with a new, softer front end and neatly tapered rear with wraparound taillights. Under the skin the car's hallmark independent suspension system has been retained, which should help ensure a high quality driving experience.
