Your GP
Pop into your local doctor's for a chat. They'll have leaflets and information on the best approach for you. The NHS even runs stop-smoking support groups so you don't feel alone while giving-up.

Online support
There are lots of websites and forums to help keep the urges at bay. The NHS has a comprehensive website with stop-smoking advice and support, so if you get online you can see at a glance what's available.

Alternative therapies
If you've tried the more conventional routes and nothing seems to be working, there are alternatives, such as hypnotherapy or acupuncture.

Again, it's worth chatting to your GP, as they may be able to advise you on practitioners, or even refer you if it's part of their services.

Local chemist

Your pharmacist can give you hints on stop-smoking aids, such as patches or replacement gum. They may not work for everyone, but if they help to ease your withdrawal pangs they could make a big difference.

Stop-smoking books
Globally, millions of ex-smokers swear by Allen Carr's stop-smoking bible. The book talks you through the myths around stopping smoking (such as it being impossible), and helps to "re-program" your mind to stop missing cigarettes.
