Robert Kubica stays with Renault F1

Updated

Robert Kubica has announced he will stay with the Renault Formula 1 team, after hinting that he may leave the outfit that he only signed for after the end of last season.

Kubica was reportedly reluctant to commit after the sale of a significant proportion of the equity in the Renault team to a Luxembourg-based company Genii Capital. He was said to want more information on the deal before deciding to race with the team.

However, sources from Renault have confirmed that the deal is purely financial, and that Genii will not be involved in the team's operation.

Kubica may have also taken a look at the other options on offer and realised that his interests were best served by sticking with Renault. So far there has been no announcement on who will partner Kubica for the 2010 season.

Although there was a spot going at Mercedes while Kubica deliberated, Michael Schumacher has now snapped that up. Toro Rosso, Campos, US F1 and Sauber are now the only teams that have yet to confirm their line-ups.
