Climax set to take on Ariel Atom and Caparo

Updated

A British-built supercar is aiming to challenge the likes of the Ariel Atom and the Caparo T1 when it goes on sale in 2010.

The production version of the Climax Sports Racer will cost £92,000, and exclusivity is guaranteed as only 200 are expected to be built by the Coventry-based outfit.

The lightweight racer is capable of getting to 60mph in as little as 3.7 seconds and keeps going all the way to 170mph. It manages this thanks to the combination of a 345 bhp 4.6-litre V8 engine and the option of a supercharger that takes power up to 450bhp.

Such a track-minded car naturally offers options such as ceramic brakes, sequential and paddle-shift gearboxes and harness seatbelts. Despite appealing to the same sort of buyer, the Climax will actually undercut the Atom by around £30,000 and the Caparo by more than £60,000.
