Mercedes unveils E-Class Cabriolet

Updated

Mercedes has announced the details of its all-new E-Class Cabriolet, the firm's replacement for the CLK Cabriolet.

Like the E-Class Coupe though, it should be marginally cheaper than the outgoing CLK with prices expected to start at over £30,000.

The E-Class Cabriolet shares the same dimensions as its coupe sibling but is slightly taller due to the electric fold-down fabric roof which can be raised or lowered in around 20 seconds.

The Coupe has already claimed the accolade of the most aerodynamic production car in the world, and the Cabriolet also benefits from being the most aerodynamic convertible in its class.

Under the bonnet buyers will be able to choose from a selection of four-cylinder diesels and petrol engines as well as a diesel V6 and petrol V6 and V8 units.

It will get an all new wind deflector system called AirCap as standard which helps to direct airflow over the passenger compartment and rear passengers preventing buffeting and retaining warm air in the cabin.

The E-Class Cabriolet will be revealed at the Detroit motor show in January before it goes on sale in the UK in March.
