Reva NXR/NXG: e-minis from India

Updated

The e-powered Reva NXR from India is on show at the IAA in Frankfurt. It will be released as early as 2010. As with population growth, family planning in India happens very quickly: the proud manufacturer has already got a small brother for his baby NXG on the drawing board for 2011.

The NXR should reach a top speed of 105km/h. In theory, it can maintain this speed for 90 minutes, as the battery charge is sufficient for at least 100 miles (160km). The NXR will be available in Europe, priced from 8,000 euros (£7,200) but with lead batteries only. It will be known as the 'NXR City', and reach speeds of up to 80km/h. If you've got 15,000 euros (£13,500) to spend, you can buy the 'Intercity', but there's a small hitch: the cost of the rechargeable batteries is not included in the price of either vehicle. That will apply also to the Reva NXG. This small vehicle is due for release in 2011, priced from 23,000 euros (£20,700).
