Henry Surtees dies in Formula 2 accident

Updated

Henry Surtees, the 18-year-old son of former Formula One and motorcycle racing world champion John Surtees, died in a London hospital from head injuries sustained in an accident. The fatality, which has shocked the world of motor racing, occurred during last weekend's Formula 2 event at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent. The young driver was struck on the head by a wheel that came flying off another car. Surtees was presumably knocked unconscious, as his car did not appear to brake for the approaching corner but careered into a trackside barrier.
