Award-winning bikes from BMW

Updated

More and more people are turning to cycling as a way of keeping fit and seeing the countryside. Car manufacturers are aware of the trend and are ratcheting up the quality and appeal of their bike collections – Porsche, Mercedes and BMW in particular. BMW have been in the bicycle construction business for 60 years now and have a number of trophies in their cabinet for outstanding design. Along with the Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany and the 'if Product Design Award', the BMW Cruise Bike has now won its second Red Dot Award.

This model has earned its sporting credentials not just for its state-of-the-art front section or its looks; the frame has been manufactured using innovative hydroforming technology, which involves pumping oil into aluminium tubes under high-pressure so as to shape them inside a special mould. This makes the frame not only lightweight but also extremely stable. Thanks to the robust suspension fork and the Shimano Alivio gears, even deep potholes, steep ascents and sprint finishes should not present the rider with any problems.
