For many people, summer means festivals and since there are so many, you can pick your festival based on musical preference, if you like camping or chalets, family-friendly or strictly adults only, but chances are most of them will require a pair of wellies!

The Isle of Wight festival is the first of summer which takes place this weekend. Consisting of a good mix of rock and pop bands, it's only a 10-minute trip on a ferry and tickets cost about £120.

The UK's most famous festival of all is Glastonbury. It attracts a varied audience due to its broad range of bands, theatre, circus acts, film screenings and children's activities. Tickets cost around £150 and over the years security has become very tight so don't expect to be able to sneak in 'cause it's not gonna happen!

If you're into world music, then Womad in Wiltshire is the festival for you. As well as music from around the world, there is also food of different cuisines to be tasted - often prepared by artists while they sing! Salsa, yoga sessions and free entry for under-13s make this event not to be missed. Tickets cost up to £125.

The Big Chill in Ledbury is a cross-cultural family festival with a strong music lineup as well as an artwork fair, Film4 shooting a zombie scene and plenty of things to entertain the kids. Tickets range from £60 to £145, depending on how many days you attend.
