Indy 500: Helio Castroneves in pole position

Updated

All good things come in threes...? Having started from the front of the grid in 2003 and 2007, Helio Castroneves once again emerged from the six-hour qualifier having secured pole position for the Indianapolis 500 to be staged on 24th May. In his rookie season of 2001, Castroneves won the Indy 500 and repeated the feat one year later. Both times, he claimed victory from much further back on the grid (eleventh and 13th). In the next six races, he managed to secure more favourable start positions, but a third victory has proved elusive. Last year's winner, Scott Dixon, goes into the race in P5. On that occasion, he won the race from pole.
